SACRAMENT OF MATRIMONY CELEBRATED FOR AGNES AND PATRICK IN OYO DIOCESE. — A Joyous Celebration at Our Lady of the Assumption Cathedral, Asogo
Vincent OBANIYI.
Saturday, May 17, 2025, was a day of great joy and spiritual significance in the Catholic Diocese of Oyo, as Agnes Olajumoke and Patrick Akintayo were joined in holy matrimony at the historic Our Lady of the Assumption Cathedral, Asogo. The solemn celebration of the Sacrament of Matrimony was witnessed by family, friends, and the faithful, who gathered to share in the grace-filled moment.
The Nuptial Mass was presided over by the Chief Shepherd of the Diocese, Most Rev. Emmanuel Adetoyese Badejo, who gave thanks to God for the gift of the couple and exhorted them to uphold the sacredness of their union.
In his remarks, Bishop Badejo emphasized that marriage is a divine covenant between a man and a woman, instituted by God Himself. He charged the couple to see the Bible as their marriage manual, and urged all present, especially the youth, to serve God diligently and remain rooted in the faith.
Delivering the homily, Rev. Fr. Benjamin Jolasun reflected deeply on the spiritual purpose of Christian marriage. He reminded the couple that the foundation of marriage is built on companionship and openness to life. Fr. Jolasun encouraged them to be each other’s best friend, to remain steadfast in prayer, and to seek the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary through devotion to the Holy Rosary. Quoting Saint Jerome, he declared, “Ignorance of the Scriptures is ignorance of Christ,” and exhorted the couple to nourish their union through the Word of God, constant forgiveness, and devotion to the Holy Eucharist.
The celebration was further enriched by the presence of distinguished clergy and religious, including:
Very Rev. Fr. Julius Olayinka (Cathedral Administrator), Rev. Fr. John Alayande, Rev. Fr. John Opoola, Rev. Fr. Anthony Adepoju, Rev. Fr. Stephan Balogun (Ibadan Archdiocese), Rev. Fr. Clement Ishola, Rev. Fr. John Paul Olaniran, Rev. Fr. John Irekiigbe, Rev. Fr. Matthew Oladosu, and Rev. Sisters from various religious congregations.
In a note of heartfelt appreciation, the newlyweds, Mr. and Mrs. Obidare, expressed their profound gratitude to Bishop Emmanuel Badejo, Rev. Fr. Jolasun, and all the priests and religious who honoured them with their presence.
"We are deeply grateful for your love, support, and gracious presence on our special day. Your heartfelt words and warm wishes added a profound touch to our wedding, making it truly unforgettable. Thank you for being part of our journey and for sharing in the joy of our celebration."
