Faith Series, Episode 83 BLESSED VIRGIN MARY – PART II
BIBLICAL NOTES ON THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY
- It is clear that the Virgin Mary’s value for us and her good example as a woman of faith in the New Testament portrays Mary as a woman who walked by faith from the Annunciation to Pentecost.
- She was totally responsive to the Father’s will and always in accord with the saving purpose of her Son.
- She followed the impulses of the Holy Spirit in every way.
- In Scripture, St Luke describes her as pondering in her heart the mystery of her Son. (Luke 2:19, 51) Just as she followed the divine will, she advised others to do the same. At Cana she said “Do whatever he tells you”. – John 2:5. Faith means the surrender of the heart and body as well as the mind and will.
- Mary consented in faith to be the mother of Jesus and received the Word of God at the Annunciation. She conceived in her heart with her whole being before she conceived Jesus in her body. In other words, Mary’s faith in God preceded her motherhood of God.
