Caritas Celebrates End of Academic Session; Queen Oluwafikayomi Akomolafe Gets Overall Best Student’s Prize

The 18th edition of ‘Annual End of Academic Session/Prize Giving and Graduation Day’ of CARITAS Nursery & Primary School, Ogbere, Ibadan, Oyo State was held on Thursday, 24th of July 2025 in the school’s premises with Queen Oluwafikayomi Akomolafe getting the prize for overall best student in addition to multiple prizes as best in many other subjects, including Mathematics and Handwriting.

The celebration began with the highest prayer of the Catholic Church, the Holy Mass which had Rev. Fr. Arnaud Aniou, CSJ of the Josephite’s Community as the Chief Celebrant.

In his homily, Fr. Arnaud said that parents and teachers have the responsibility to accompany the children (pupils) in their journey of life because they have been entrusted to them by God. They ought to assist and guide them. Parents and teachers should work hand in hand so that education of our young ones will follow the right path. It should be a continuation of what they are taught in school.

The cleric said, “no matter your religion you should teach your children to fear God. Thus, we have the responsibility to raise our kids in the knowledge and fear of God.” He encouraged the School Management and Staff to keep up with their good deeds in training young minds.

In the same vein, he said that knowledge is expensive but it is good to be educated and that’s why parents do their best to give their children the best education. He prayed for God’s blessings on the School Management, Staff and Parents. The primary 5 and Nursery 2 pupils also had a thanksgiving after the Holy Communion.

At the second part of the celebration which was anchored by Mr Olushola Ajao of ‘Impact Business Radio, 92.5FM, the pupils entertained all with various presentations such as speeches, cultural dances, choreography as well as a French presentation by the French Club.

The occasion, which was chaired by Mr Adedeji Ifedayo also witnessed lighting of candles and special prayer for the Graduands by their parents after which the parents took to the dancing floor with Graduands to the delight of all.

The Head Teacher of the school, Rev. Sr. Carine Okeh, SJS in her address congratulated the graduating pupils of class of 2025 on a job well done and for marking another milestone in their academic pursuits. She advised that character and reputation is as important as academic success and urged them to work hard and that their reputation should be of a positive one knowing fully well the prestigious school that they graduated from.

She also advised them to choose their friends wisely and carefully at secondary school because the friends you choose will have a lot of influence on your character and reputation.

Rev. Sr. Carine Okeh appreciated the parents for their love, support and for perseveringly sharing in their beliefs as well as entrusting them with their children. She also appreciated the teaching and non-teaching staff for availing themselves to be used by God in raising a generation of God fearing leaders.

There was a cutting of cake by both Nursery 2 and Basic 5 pupils as well as presentation of prizes for punctuality, neatness, well-behaved and best academic performance for deserving pupils, including Queen Oluwafikayomi Akomolafe, who got the prize for the overall best for Basic 5 pupils in addition to several other prizes she received as best student in many subjects which made all in attendance at the celebration to give her a standing ovation.
