The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Augustine University, Ilara-Epe, Lagos, Sir Steve Bamidele Omojafor is pleased to announce the appointment of Rev. Father Professor Anthony Alaba Akinwale, OP, as third substantive Vice-Chancellor of the Institution. His appointment takes effect from September 1, 2025 following the completion of the tenure of the current Vice-Chancellor, Professor Christopher Odetunde.

Akinwale, Professor of Systematic Theology and Thomistic Philosophy, is a distinguished Scholar, seasoned Administrator, and Catholic Priest of the Order of Preachers (Dominicans), and brings to Augustine University decades of academic leadership, intellectual depth, and unflinching commitment to the values of Catholic higher education. He previously served as Pioneer Vice-Chancellor of the Dominican University, Ibadan from 2017 to 2022, Deputy Vice - Chancellor of Augustine University since 2023, and has held various leadership roles within the Nigerian and global academic communities. 

His appointment is expected to further strengthen Augustine University’s commitment to academic excellence, moral integrity, and holistic formation of students, as the Institution continues to pursue excellence in teaching, research, and service, rooted in strong moral and ethical values.

The Board of Trustees expresses its gratitude to the outgoing Vice Chancellor, Professor Christopher Odetunde, and congratulates the incoming Vice Chancellor, Professor Anthony Akinwale.
