Vanity on Vanity, All is Vanity....... Rev. Fr. Nathaniel Okonta CSJ
Peter ESANMAH
Rev. Fr. Nathaniel Okonta CSJ on Sunday 3rd August 2025 said that the Church urges all Christians to remain focused on our quest for heaven and to focus our attention on the heavenly realities more than on the earthly surface.
The priest also said the first reading of this Sunday begins with a warning "Vanity, Vanity, The Priest says vanity”, also he called us to remember God in all we do and also reminded us that there will be an ultimate end to all created things.
The priest addede that the ultimate goal here on earth is to walk our way straight to heaven. “Brothers and sisters in Christ, as we have heard from the readings of the sacred scriptures today and as we have discussed, we are all indeed reminded to keep ourselves away from all these unhealthy attachments and desires for worldly goods and matter”.
The priest also emphasized on the second reading which hits the nail on the head by saying many Christians have become so attached to the things of the world that we hardly reflect on heaven anymore. This is because it has become an ancient tale told by the ignorant and believed by fools.
The priest further stated that the more we place our hopes on things of the world, the more we lose sight of heaven. This is because "Where a man's wealth is, there is his soul". Hence, Priest said as followers of Christ, we are called to risk our comfort and security on behalf of any member of our community, members of the Church and so on.
Fr. Okonta encouraged all to fix our eyes and mind on heavenly things and not only on the vain things of this earth. “There is a saying "Real men and women love Jesus and not riches" indeed, real men and women are those who despite of their fame, wealth, achievement love Jesus above all.”
