Integrity: Building Strong Foundations While You’re Young
Hi Sis,
At the risk of sounding like that lecturing aunty we all know, just hear me out on this one. I have been watching our generation, and one thing I consistently see is how comfortable we have become with compromise and how allergic many of us are to putting in the work. It is almost as though shortcuts have become the new normal.
But I need to remind you of something that will carry you further than talent, beauty, or opportunities ever could: INTEGRITY.
Proverbs 10:9 says, “Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but whoever takes crooked paths will be found out.” Integrity is not built in one big decision. It is built one choice at a time, one moment at a time, and one day at a time.
What Is Integrity, Really?
Integrity is about being whole and consistent. It means what you say in public matches who you are in private. It is telling the truth even when lying looks easier. It is doing the right thing even when no one is watching. It is keeping your word, even in small matters, because your “yes” should mean yes and your “no” should mean no.
Why Does Integrity Matter?
It builds trust. People may admire your beauty or talent, but they will only trust you if you are consistent and reliable.
It protects your future. Compromise may look harmless now, but it has a way of catching up with you later. Integrity saves you from unnecessary regret.
It honours God. Our lives are meant to reflect His character, and God is a God of truth. Walking in integrity is a form of worship.
How Do You Build Integrity Early?
Keep your word. If you say you will be somewhere at 4 pm, show up at 4 pm. If you borrow something, return it. Small actions like this build credibility.
Do your work well. Whether it is school assignments, house chores, or a job, give your best. Cutting corners today will make cutting corners tomorrow easier.
Tell the truth. Lies are heavy to carry. Truth, even when it costs you, brings freedom.
Take responsibility. If you make a mistake, own it. Don’t shift blame. Growth comes from accountability.
Say no to shortcuts. The world may glorify “fast life,” but shortcuts usually lead to broken paths. Trust God’s timing and process.
A Little Heart Check
Sis, pause and ask yourself: Do I want to be known as someone who can be trusted, or someone whose words people take lightly? The habits you build now will follow you for the rest of your life. Integrity may not always make you popular, but it will always make you valuable.
Your Challenge This Week
Catch yourself in the small moments. When you are tempted to exaggerate a story, cut corners, or break a promise, remind yourself: I am building integrity one choice at a time.
It is not about being perfect, it is about being intentional.
Let us be the kind of women who embrace wisdom and understanding early, because integrity will take you further than shortcuts ever could.
Let us Pray:
Lord, teach me to value integrity. Help me to be truthful in speech, faithful in action, and steadfast in character. May my life reflect You in public and in private. Amen.
With love and prayers,
Your sister in Christ
