ABEOKUTA DIOCESE SPLITS ST. PETER'S, OTA TO FORM A NEW PARISH.

St. Charles Boromeo Catholic Church Akeja, an outstation of St. Peter's Catholic Church located along Iganmode Road, Ota Ogun State Abeokuta Diocese has been made a parish. The Bishop of the Diocese Rt. Rev. Dr. Peter Olukayode elevated the outstation to the status of a parish on Saturday, August 30, 2025. The pioneer Parish Priest is Rev. Fr. Ligom Aondowase Danielmary (Sdv) an indigene of Gboko Diocese who was ordained a Vocationist Priest on December 2, 2022. He resumed work on Friday, September 5, 2025.

 

St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church Akeja, started as a Basic Community Center (BCC) with 23 members in 2016, in the house of Mr & Mrs. Christopher Adegbite located at No 16, Lord Avenue, Ibioridanisi Estate, off Akeja Bus Stop, Ota. Mass was first celebrated at the center on November 4, 2017 by Father Vincent Zanu, the then parish priest of St. Peter's Ota. The new parish now has a population of 160 members.

 

Announcing the creation of the new parish to the faithful of St. Peter's Ota, the Parish Priest, Very Rev. Fr. Clement Ajibola Ashade thanked God that his parish has given birth to yet another parish within a space of five months as St. Theresa‘s Ilo Awela was carved out from St. Peter's, Ota on March 18, 2025. He enjoined the parishioners to continue to pray for the evangelization of the gospel.
