BEFORE YOU COMPLAIN, APPRECIATE GOD’S GOODNESS
When the weather is hot, cold, wet, fine, windy, etc. you complain. But God said to you in Jeremiah 29:11, “I know the plans I have for you. They are plans for good and not disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”
When you were a child you allowed yourself to be led by the hand but now that you are an adult, you free yourself and refuse to be led when you know not the way. “They have eyes, but they are blind; they have ears, but they are deaf!” Isaiah 43:8.
Allow him who created you to lead you to where you should be rather than complaining endlessly about earthly things.
Lord Jesus said to us, “I am the way, the truth and the life” He is the way to the Father, so surrender yourself to him now! Do not attach so much value to earthly things and allow them to distract you.
God has said, you are the apple of His eye and that you are worth more than the birds of the air He cares for. His promise, He will fulfill because He has not changed.
God loves us not because of our goodness or achievements but unconditionally. Because we are alife is a proof that God loves us.
Yet, we grumble daily complaining of God’s unwillingness to meet our needs. “As for you, even the hairs of your head have all been counted. So, do not be afraid; you are worth much more than many sparrows” Mt 10:30-31.
Are you in distress? No matter the situation, pray and praise Jesus, the God of impossibilities. “Is anyone among you in trouble? He should pray. Is anyone happy? He should sing praises” Jas 5:13.
Man has short memories: God has been protecting and providing for us over the time. Each time the wind blows, we cry bitterly as if God has abandoned us.
God has not changed: He is still very much with us! “How good it is to give thanks to you, O Lord, to sing in your honor, O Most High God, to proclaim your constant love every morning and your faithfulness every night.” Psalm 92:1-2.
Thomas A. Kempis once said, “Be grateful, therefore, for the least gift and you will be worthy to receive more. Nothing is small that comes from the Most High God.
Indeed, even if He sends punishment and affliction, we should accept it with gratitude: for whatever He permits to happen to us is always with our salvation in view.” Romans 8:32 complemented the above saying, “God gave us His Son, will He not also freely give us all things?” Yes! He will as He has always done!
Those who think they have no reason to praise God because they achieved success on their own should have a rethink. “Wise men should not boast of their wisdom or strong men of their strength or rich men of their wealth.
If anyone wants to boast, he should boast that he knows and understands me because my love is constant and I do what is just and right” Jer 9:23-24.
I love that beautiful song, “All I have is given to me by the Lord!” Some spend their lives doing hard labour to earn their living while others do very little and become very successful.
The man who goes out in the morning pushing his wheelbarrow till evening makes so little to keep body and soul. Yet he is in the habit of singing songs of praises come rain or sunshine, thanking God for his life without complaining as much as others do.
Most of those who have so many investments have little or no time to praise God because they are preoccupied and have reasons to complain most of the time. Their investments must grow rapidly and enlarge financially to prove their managerial ability and wisdom. “Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labour in vain.” Ps 127:1.
“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say again: Rejoice! Don’t worry about anything, but in all your prayers ask God for what you need, always asking Him with a thankful heart. And God’s peace, which is far beyond human understanding, will keep your hearts and minds safe in union with Christ Jesus” Phil 4:4, 6-7.
A child who trusts his father will not grumble when the road is rough because he believes in him. That is how it should be for every one of us: we all have reasons to praise God. When you appreciate a gift, no matter how small it may be, the giver will be provoked to give you more. It has worked for me and it will work for you too!
If only you create time for daily meditation on your relationship with God and realize how close God has always been to you, you will have many reasons to praise Him at all times in all situations.
Look at Paul and Silas who regardless of their awkward situations had to sing and dance in the prison. And the Lord in His infinite goodness had to set them free. The more we praise God in recognition of His goodness to us, the more He manifests His presence in our midst and elongate our testimonies. Try it for a size and you will remember that I told you.
Do you realize that one of the greatest miracles in our life is to sleep and wake up to see a new day? Lamentation 3:22-23 says, “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”
So, when you rise each morning say with Psalm 118:24 “This is the day which the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” With this acknowledgment, commit the day into God’s hand and let Him fulfill His plans for you. You will not regret it!
