On Saturday, 18 April 2026, St. Rita Catholic Church in Olowu Igangan was the setting for a momentous mass wedding ceremony, the first of its kind in the parish. The celebration began at 10 AM, led by the parish priest, Rev. Fr. Victor Ugbor, who served as the Chief Celebrant, welcoming the couples and their families to the joyous occasion.
Prior to the ceremony, the couples participated in a comprehensive marriage preparation class designed to enrich their understanding of the sacrament of matrimony. This preparation was evident as seven couples came together to receive the sacrament of matrimony.
As the Mass commenced, the Church was filled with family, friends, and well-wishers, creating an atmosphere of love and support. The readings for the day reflected themes of love, unity, and divine purpose.
The Mass also featured a homily delivered by the parish priest, Fr. Victor Ugbor emphasizing that marriage is a sacred gift from God. He articulated the significance of the wedding vows, reminding the couples that it is God who joins them together, and invoking the Biblical teaching that “what God has joined together, let no man puts asunder.” His message resonated deeply, encouraging the couples to cultivate a loving and supportive partnership. Additionally, he asserted that God who had joined them together is “love” and as such, their union should reflect this essence.
Following the homily, the couples took part in the marriage vows and exchanged rings. Each couple stood before the altar, surrounded by family and friends, and pledged their commitment to one another. This solemn act was met with applause and cheers from the congregation.
The Mass concluded with a special blessing for the newly married couples, invoking God’s grace upon their unions. As they exited the Church, the atmosphere was filled with celebration. Families and friends gathered to congratulate the couples, with heartfelt embraces and well wishes.
