In commemoration of the World Day of Creation, St. Mary Catholic Church, Eruwa, came together after the celebration of Holy Mass to mark the occasion with the planting of five trees, symbolizing the Church’s commitment to caring for creation and promoting environmental responsibility.

The tree-planting exercise, which brought together the clergy, parish leaders, representatives of various Church organizations, and the elderly members of the parish, was led by the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Vincent Opeyemi Alabi, alongside his Assistant, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Jesugbami Ajani.

The first tree was planted by the two priests, who led the parish community in the symbolic exercise. Their participation underscored the Church’s responsibility to encourage the faithful to embrace practical actions that contribute to the protection and preservation of the environment.

The second tree was planted by the Parish Pastoral Council Chairman and President of the Laity Council in the Archdiocese, Mr. Olujide Felix Oladokun, together with the Parish Laity President, Mr. John Olabode Oladokun.

Representing the parish’s men and women organizations, the Catholic Men Organization (CMO) President, Engr. Ogundeji Martins, and the Catholic Women Organization (CWO) President, Mrs. Monica Emenike, planted the third tree.

The fourth tree was planted by the CYON President, Miss Caroline Oladokun, and Master Mathias Oshin, representing the Holy Childhood Association, symbolizing the active participation of the younger generation in the Church’s responsibility to care for the earth and safeguard its future.

The fifth and final tree was planted by Pa. Ogundeji James Ogunbowale and Mama Susan Famawode, representing the elders of the parish. Their participation added a generational dimension to the celebration, reflecting the shared responsibility of both present and future generations to preserve God’s creation.

The exercise provided a practical expression of the parish’s observance of the World Day of Creation, reminding the faithful that caring for the environment is not merely a social responsibility but also an important expression of stewardship of God’s creation.

The tree-planting ceremony concluded with a closing prayer offered by the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Vincent Opeyemi Alabi, bringing the commemorative activity to a close.

Through the planting of the five trees, St. Mary Catholic Church, Eruwa, not only commemorated the World Day of Creation but also planted a lasting symbol of hope, responsibility, and commitment to a healthier and more sustainable environment.

At the outstations; St Francis Catholic Church Maya and St. Augustine Catholic Church, Lanlate, the Assistant Parish Priest reminded the people that caring for creation is our collective responsibility. 

In commemoration of the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, a mini fundraising was organized to purchase symbolic flowers and trees for the community as a mark for this solemn day and as a sign of their commitment to protecting God’s creation.
