Faith in Christ Goes Beyond Palm Sunday says Fr Adeyemi
Christ is not there on the Cross to show humanity what will happen to them if they failed, He is there to show that He has already paid the penalty for sins. According to him, Christ’s death is not for God but for the wrong doings of men, because He loves human. He opined that Christ’s stretched arm on the Cross is a compassionate one that welcomes at all times.
As Lent concludes, the Parish Priest, SS Peter & Paul Catholic Pro-Cathedral, Lagere, Ile-Ife; Rev. Fr. Peter Adeyemi expects Christians to have come to the greater discernment of God's will for all during lent and to have discovered some unknown areas of darkness and of unexpected light in their lives. He considers the real mark of a holy lent as the difference it makes in the lives of Christians after Easter. He worries that in most cases, total transformations probably have not occurred in the life of an average adult, despite their Lent experience of many years.
The clergy educated that Lent offers a unique opportunity to deal with specific areas of life that need transformation while affirming that each person has a specific area that requires spiritual touch; advising that in case the past weeks in lent has not catalyzed transformation in the life of a believer in habit and attitude to spiritual and temporal concerns, the Holy Week he said, offers another unique opportunity to make resolutions.
On this day last year, one of the major options provided by him to attain eternal salvation, is to be Christ-like. While he considered happiness, reliance of God and peacefulness as catalyst to acquisition of the heritage of Christ, overcoming several obstacles such as; the malicious human, wicked souls and others were prescribed as tools for victory in the midst of many Pilates of the world. Though the priest reminded them that Palm Sunday is a reminder of their commitment with God, he further iterated that solidarity and faith in Christ should not end with carrying of palm branches on Palm Sunday, it should rather be a continuous act. He however encouraged Catholic faithful to fully participate in Holy Week activities in order to receive the maximum spiritual benefits of the Holy season.
