The newly formed Mokola Deanery Laity Council held its inaugural meeting on Sunday, April 13, 2025, at St. Theresa Catholic Church, Awotan, marking a significant step in the Deanery's development.

Presided over by Deanery President, Mr. Evans Ekeoba, the meeting saw a strong turnout from representatives of all eight parishes within the Deanery. Mokola Deanery, recently established from the former North Deanery Laity Council, comprises St. Gabriel Mokola, St. Richard Jericho GRA, St. Rita Arometa, St. Monica Ologuneru, St. Christopher Sango, Mater Dei Gbopa, and St. Theresa Awotan.

Each parish delegation consisted of its President, Secretary, and a delegate, alongside Archdiocesan executives from the Mokola Deanery. The meeting served as a platform to assess the Deanery's recent participation in the Archdiocese's Laity Week, where Mokola Deanery secured 5th place in the quiz competition and 2nd in the football tournament. The council also praised the commendable parish involvement in the Cathedraticum held at St. Gabriel Mokola.

A key highlight of the meeting was the inauguration of a committee tasked with planning the Deanery's first major program. Mr. Simon Senaya was appointed Chairman of the Leadership Summit Planning Committee, scheduled for July.

Rev. Fr. Claudius Uwaoma ISch, Parish Priest of St. Theresa Awotan lauded the delegates for their dedication and encouraged them to remain steadfast in their commitment to the Deanery's growth.

Mr. Ekeoba echoed this sentiment, expressing his satisfaction with the meeting's attendance and emphasizing the importance of unity in achieving the Deanery's goals. He acknowledged the collective effort during the Cathedraticum and Laity Week, urging continued support to position Mokola Deanery as a leading entity within the Archdiocese.

Mr. Ekeoba also highlighted the inclusive nature of the Deanery’s Council, encompassing parishes, organizations, and lay apostolates. He extended a warm welcome to the Mokola Catholic Women Organisation (CWO) executives, affirming their integral role within the Council.

Council members expressed their congratulations to the Executive Committee for the successful inaugural meeting and pledged their unwavering support for their leadership.
