SUFFERING DOES NOT END THE WORLD, BUT GLORIFICATION…FR. IKECHUKWU, CSJ

The Universal Church on Sunday 13th April 2025 celebrated Palm Sunday, which signifies the commencement of the Holy Week. At St. Anne Parish, Ogbere, the celebration was unique as parishioners of the Mother Parish and Outstations, Priests and Seminarians of Josephite Community and Sisters of Jesus the Saviour, Ogbere gathered for the celebration which started from Caritas International School with the blessing of Palm and procession through Amuloko Road into the Church premises.

Joining the parish priest, Rev. Fr. Stephen Balogun were Rev. Frs: Justine Adeka, CSJ (the Josephites Superior in Ogbere Community), Vitalis Ikechukwu, CSJ (the Chief Celebrant) and Arnould Aniou, CSJ for the celebration, where roles were shared accordingly throughout the celebration.

The Chief Celebrant during the first part of the celebration stated that suffering does not end the world but that glorification ends the world. He added that Christ, who borrowed the womb of a woman, borrowed a hospital and to crown Himself as a King also borrowed the horse has already lived His own life and left for us Christians the memorial. Hence, according to him, if Christians live the Holy Week perfectly, then, they will be able to see themselves living in Christ Jesus. He further said that though there could be many temptations and criticisms, but all must reflect deeply and cut short most of the things they do and be able to live in utmost level.

Similarly, in his homily, Fr. Aniou, CSJ described the day’s readings as though seem sadden but it is rather about a tremendous love of God, for Christ died for us to gain life. He therefore urged that all focus their minds on the end; which is resurrection and love rather than looking at the sorrowful event. “A man, God gave up His life for His love for us. We must also live this love among ourselves.” The priest said.

The homilist also warned against passing judgement at people like in the case of Judas, for he must have done what he did for some reasons such as his thought that Christ would escape, for love of money, manipulation of religious leaders and unworthy reception of Holy Communion, which made devil to enter into him. Hence, he urged that Catholic faithful strive always to receive Holy Communion worthily and admonished all to let each event of Holy Week live in us (Christians).

The parish priest, Rev. Fr. Stephen Balogun appreciated all the Priests, Religious, Seminarians and other groups that took active part in the day’s celebration.

There were also thanksgivings which included that of Rev. Sr. Mary Dominic Opara, SJS; who is on transfer from Ibadan as well as birthday thanksgiving of the Parish Priest, Fr. Stephen Balogun.
