ARCHBISHOP GABRIEL ABEGUNRIN BLESSES ST AUGUSTINE CATHOLIC CHURCH OJOO, AND ADMINISTERS THE SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION

May 11th, 2025, was a day etched in the memories of the parishioners of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Ojoo. The Archbishop's visit to bless the newly completed Church brought immense joy and spiritual fulfillment to the congregation. With solemn reverence, he blessed the altar, tabernacle, and pulpit, infusing the sacred spaces with divine grace.

During the Holy Mass, the Archbishop confirmed 24 catechumen, welcoming them into the full communion of the Catholic faith. In his homily, he praised the parishioners for their unwavering dedication to completing the Church, urging them to show reverence to the Lord now present in the tabernacle. He reminded the faithful that the Church is a sacred place of prayer, calling for respect and solemnity within its walls. His Grace reminded the congregation that the Church celebrates The Good Shepherd Sunday which refers to Our Lord Jesus as the Good Shepherd and for the need to pray for those who shepherd his flock on earth.

The Archbishop expressed gratitude to Chief Toye Ogunyemi who donated the land to the Church, and to everyone who contributed to the Church’s development, acknowledging the journey from its humble beginning to this milestone. To the newly confirmed, he offered words of encouragement, advising them to deepen their understanding of the faith and share it with others. They are now matured Catholics and should live by example.

The Mass was filled with vibrant expressions of faith as the parishioners sang and danced in celebration of this momentous occasion. Mrs. Margaret Ogoh, the Parish Chairperson, expressed her heartfelt thanks to the congregation for their cooperation and hard work, emphasizing that contributing to the Church’s development is a way of building for the Lord. She also noted that while this achievement marks a significant milestone, there is still much work to be done.

The festivities continued in the Church hall, where cultural displays, songs, and drama presented by the Holy Childhood Association (HCA) and other Church groups added to the joyous atmosphere. The Archbishop, priests, and parishioners were treated to an afternoon of celebration, reflecting the unity and spirit of the community.

The day concluded with hearts full of joy and spirits renewed in faith, ready to continue building their spiritual journey together.
