Ikire CYON, NFCS meet for a Refreshing Outing

Benedict DIAMOND

The annual Youth Easter Picnic of Holy Cross Parish and Uniosun NFCSers (Ikire Chapter) was a refreshing and spirit-filled outing that brought together over 20 vibrant youths  for a day of Fellowship, fun, and inspiration at the Don Bosco Recreational Center, Ogungbade on the 10th of May, 2025.

The friendly demeanor and courteous welcome from Fr. Linus (priest on the street) set a positive tone for the day.  Various activities including board games, show of talents, interaction with Bosco youths and others encouraged teamwork, bonding, and healthy competition. A shared lunch gave everyone the opportunity to enjoy meals provided by members and the planning committee, reinforcing a sense of community and care. A notable highlight of the day was the opportunity to witness the vibrant life and mission of the Don Bosco community.

As their day came to a close, Father Linus addressed us with warmth and love. He introduced us to various community members, including individuals who had been rescued from the streets and rehabilitated through training in diverse skills and trades. He also shared insights into the mission and vision of the Don Bosco initiative and introduced us to some of the children and youth engaged in the center’s various programs. We were privileged to observe several ongoing training sessions, including dance classes, taekwondo practice, band rehearsals, and more.

The picnic was both recreational and transformational. It strengthened friendships among the youth and offered valuable insight into the power of service, community development, and Christian compassion. All participants expressed deep appreciation to the Chaplain Fr. Joseph Baranjoko and the Organising Committee, and equally applauded the Don Bosco Fathers and Brothers for upholding the Don Bosco model and left with a renewed commitment to positive societal change. Indeed, our hope was restored.
