Akinbohun OREOLUWA
In a heartfelt celebration that blended in faith, family, and service; St. Peter Catholic Church, Apata, marked this year’s Fathers’ Day with a powerful twist. Men of the parish took full leadership of the Sunday liturgical service, bringing fresh energy and reverence to the sacred space.
From the very first hymn to the final blessing, the celebration honoured the strength and sacrifice of fathers, both in the family, and within the Church community.
A Day of Full Participation by Fathers
For this special occasion, the Men of St. Peter stepped into roles traditionally held by various parish groups:
- Men took the Readings and also formed parts of the choir, leading the congregation in rich, soul-lifting hymns that echoed with purpose and praise.
- Fathers served as Church Wardens, welcoming parishioners with warmth and dignity while also maintaining orderliness in the Church.
- At the altar, Fathers humbly took the place of altar servers, assisting in the liturgy with reverence.
And in a deeply moving homily, the Assistant Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Raphael Agbeje delivered the Fathers’ Day sermon; a heart stirring message about the vital roles of Fathers in family life and faith formation.
In his homily, the priest emphasized the often unspoken roles of men in holding the family together. “Fathers are the foundation stones of society,” he said. “They are the ones who rise early, pray quietly, work hard, and often go unnoticed. But today, we honor them. Not because they are perfect, but because they are present.”
He urged fathers to lead their homes with faith, courage, and consistency, reminding them that being a good father is one of the highest callings in life.
The newly elected CMO Executives in persons of:
President- Mr Ikenna Eboh; Vice President- Mr Cosmas Nnamuchi; General Secretary- Mr Amaechi Emmanuel; Asst. General Secretary- Mr Femi Adejumo; Treasurer- Chief Femi Ojurongbe; Financial Secretary- Mr Victor Ezea; PRO- Mr Alex Okwu; Welfare- Mr Adeojo A. and Ex. Officio- Dr Taiwo Cletus were also presented to the Church and they were blessed by the Assistant Parish Priest.
The Assistant Parish Priest expressed joy and appreciation at seeing fathers in the Church take such active roles in the celebration of the Holy Mass.
It was a beautiful celebration reminding everyone that while mothers are the hearts of the home, fathers are its foundation, and as St. Peter’s Apata continues to grow in faith and unity, this year’s Fathers’ Day serves as a memorable reminder that: Fathers may not always ask for recognition, but they deeply deserve it.
