I HAVE ALWAYS DESIRED TO BE A PRIEST, FR. IBIMILUYI
Prince ADEMILUYI
The Parish Priest of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Lasokun, Rev. Fr. Peter Ibimiluyi said he has always desired to be a priest. The priest said this in his homily on Good Shepherd Sunday May 11.
Describing Priesthood as a very good life, Fr. Ibimiluyi described as wonderful being another Christ “despite our unworthiness”, Fr. Ibimiluyi said “God still uses us.”
The parish priest said there are so many good priests out there. Wondering, He said “I don’t know if I’m one of them.” I hope so.
He noted that only about eight parishes in the Archdiocese have two priests each which he described as grossly inadequate considering the workload of priests which he said is very heavy.
Though the life of a priest could be said to be beautiful, Fr. Ibimiluyi said it is not an easy job. There are so many voices in the world today but the priest said, “we know the voice of God as we listen to it every day.”
Asking how often we listen to the voice of God, Fr. Ibimiluyi contended that “anything that gives you momentary joy is not of God.”
While advising young people to embrace the priesthood and religions life, the priest said young people must not be forced into it, but should only be encouraged.
