More Than a Pretty Face

Lilly Path with Ifeoma Odisa UGWU

Dear Sisters,

You’ve probably noticed how much this world celebrates how we look. From perfectly done edges to glowing skin and TikTok-approved outfits—it’s everywhere. And let me be clear: There’s absolutely nothing wrong with being well-presented. Take care of your body. Honour your femininity. Enjoy style, beauty, and aesthetics—they are gifts.

But here’s something more:

Beauty is not a skill set. You cannot build a purposeful life around how symmetrical your face is, how many likes you get, or how many compliments you collect.

There’s a subtle pressure to make “looking good” our biggest achievement. But Proverbs 31:30 pulls the curtain back and gives us the truth: “Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.”

You see, charm can mislead. Beauty can fade. But wisdom, character, and reverence for God? Those will carry you through every season.

So let’s pause and ask: What more can I be?

Be a Woman of Depth?

Sister, there is more. So much more.

Be the kind of woman who doesn’t just look beautiful, but lives beautifully.
Read books. Think deeply. Ask hard questions.
Stretch your mind. Learn new skills.
Study the Word. Learn how to pray with precision.

Don’t just chase aesthetics. Chase understanding. Build a life with substance. Be the girl who walks into a room and carries both grace and grit.

Because yes, beauty may turn heads—but it is wisdom that opens doors, and keeps them open.

Culture May Applaud Beauty, but Heaven Applauds Character

Let’s not aim only to be admired for our looks. Let’s aim to be respected for our lives.

The world may reward the outward, but God looks at the heart (1 Samuel 16:7). That means your inner life matters more than you think. You don’t need to trend to be valuable. You don’t need to go viral to be seen. You are already fully known and deeply loved by the One who made you.

Don’t just be pretty. Be principled. Be prayerful. Be discerning. Be disciplined. Be kind. Be bold.

What More Really Looks Like?

  • Being more isn’t being loud or everywhere. It doesn’t always sparkle. Sometimes, it looks like:
  • Choosing to pray instead of post.
  • Reading Proverbs instead of refreshing your feed.
  • Saying ‘no’ to what’s popular so you can say ‘yes’ to what’s purposeful.
  • Learning to love God’s Word more than other people’s opinions.

How to Grow Into More?

  • Guard Your Inputs: Be careful what you consume. Beauty without wisdom is like glitter on an empty box.
  • Ask the Bigger Questions: What do I want my life to mean? Who am I becoming? What is God building in me?
  • Stay Rooted in the Word: Scripture isn’t old-fashioned—it’s your foundation. (Psalm 119:105)
  • Surround Yourself with Depth: Build friendships that stir you to grow, not just glow.
  • Pray Bold, Specific Prayers: Ask God for wisdom, not just beauty. For clarity, not just charm. For purpose, not just presence.

You Are Becoming Something Beautiful

The world may try to box you into just a face or a figure. But heaven sees you as a vessel of destiny, wisdom, and influence.

You are not just a pretty face.
You are not just here to be seen.
You are here to be sent. To be shaped. To be salt and light in a world drowning in shallow.

So rise, sister.
Walk with elegance—but walk with endurance.
Think deeply. Speak wisely. Live intentionally.
Be the woman who doesn’t just inspire admiration, but commands respect—because her life is rooted in truth.

Reflection Questions for the Week:

  1. Am I spending more time on my appearance than on my spiritual and intellectual growth?
  2. What books, scriptures, or habits can help me grow into the woman I want to become?
  3. What does it mean to be “a woman who fears the Lord” in my current season?

Pray with Me

Dear Father,
Thank You for making me wonderfully and beautifully. Teach me not to chase the world’s approval, but to walk in Your purpose for me. Help me grow in wisdom, in character, and in strength. Show me how to carry grace, speak truth, and live deeply. Make me a woman who is not only admired—but a woman grounded in You. Amen.

With all my heart,
Your Big Sister in Christ.
