Fr. John Irekiigbe Calls for Gentle, Hope-Filled 2025 Communication Week
Vincent OBANIYI
Fr. John Irekiigbe, the Communication Director of the Catholic Diocese of Oyo, has emphasized the need for Christians to embrace gentle and hope-filled communication, in line with the 2025 World Communication Day theme: "Share with gentleness the hope that's in your heart."
Speaking during Sunday’s homily at St. Peter Catholic Church, Sabo, Oyo, Fr. Irekiigbe reflected on the theme chosen by Pope Francis, urging the faithful to respond to today’s culture of negativity and harsh words with kindness, patience, and love. He noted that true communication, guided by faith, should reflect the love of Christ and obedience to His teachings.
Fr. Irekiigbe explained that communication grounded in trust and compassion has the power to heal divisions, foster understanding, and bring people closer to God. He encouraged the congregation to see every conversation as an opportunity to offer hope, especially in a world often filled with conflict and misunderstanding.
As Communication Week is observed across parishes, Fr. Irekiigbe’s message stands as a timely call for believers to become instruments of peace using their words not to wound, but to uplift, connect, and inspire others through the love of Christ.
