The Catholic Women Organization of Nigeria (CWON) of St. Peter's Catholic Church, along Iganmode Road Ota, Abeokuta Diocese, Ogun State, joined their counterparts in the Diocese to light the Torch of Unity, signifying the end of the  2025 May Devotion on Sunday, June 1, 2025.

According to the Parish's CWON General Secretary, Mrs. Nkwocha Uche, the occasion, which is an annual spiritual exercise, was an avenue to showcase Jesus as the Light of the world. She added that ‘One of the missions of the CWON is to emulate our Mother Mary, respect and honour her and aspire to be like her’.

Mrs. Nkwocha explained that the Diocesan CWON has maintained the tradition of giving candles to the respective parish CWON Presidents to take to their parishes for the event. She reiterated that the lighting of the candle is called the Lighting of the Torch of Unity, which unites mothers in the Parish.

After the blessing of the candles in the Church by the Assistant Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. John Ajofoge, the women headed to the Marian Grotto in the Church premises where they prayed and danced to some Marian songs and thereafter dropped their candles at the Grotto.
