ONLINE EVANGELISTS
In a momentous celebration, the Catholic Church on Sunday 7th September witnessed the canonization of 2 young men, Carlo Acutis and Pier Giogio Frassati. It was such a beautiful moment, most especially for youths, who could relate perfectly with these saints and see how possible it is to serve God despite the seemingly difficulties of this present time. A woman said to me, Fr. 2 persons were canonized but it's only Carlo Acutis that's popularly mentioned, why? My reply was, He is closer to us. He was born in 1991 and died 2006 unlike Pier who was born in 1901 and died 1925, that's a century ago.
In a world where technology increasingly shapes our lives, it's heartening to see individuals who leverage its power to spread love, kindness, and faith. The recent canonization of Carlo Acutis, the Catholic Church's first millennial saint, is a powerful testament to the enduring impact of devotion and technology combined.
Carlo Acutis, affectionately known as "God's Influencer," was a remarkable 15-year-old who used his coding skills to create a website showcasing Eucharistic miracles worldwide. His dedication to faith and technology serves as a beacon of hope for younger generations, demonstrating that it's possible to live out one's values in the digital world while staying true to one's faith.
Carlo's story highlights the immense potential for technology to be used as a force for good, promoting spiritual growth, connection, and a deeper understanding of faith in the digital age. His canonization reflects the Church's proactive efforts to engage with younger audience, showcasing a relatable role model who embodies both modern life and spiritual devotion. Carlo's life is a powerful reminder that even in a world filled with distractions, one can remain focused on their values and use their talents to make a positive impact, inspiring others through their actions and faith. Carlo's relatability stems from his ordinary yet extraordinary life. Like many young people today, he enjoyed playing video games, making videos of his pets, and spending time with friends. However, his unwavering faith and commitment to spreading the Gospel set him apart, inspiring countless individuals worldwide to live their faith more authentically.
In our world today where online presence has become characterized by recklessness and impunity, the life of Carlo becomes a challenge to all of us to make our presence online a meaningful one. It has the opportunity of reaching a larger audience, hence, can be a veritable means of evangelism. The canonization of Carlo Acutis and other saints serves as a poignant reminder that faith and technology are not mutually exclusive. Instead, they can complement each other beautifully, leading to a more profound understanding of oneself and one's purpose. As we navigate the complexities of the digital age, we can draw inspiration from Carlo's story, recognizing the potential for technology to be a powerful tool for good.
Let us strive to emulate Carlo's example, using our talents and skills to spread love, kindness, and faith to those around us. By doing so, we can create a more compassionate, connected, and faith-filled world, where technology serves as a bridge rather than a barrier to deeper relationships and spiritual growth. Carlo Acutis's story is a testament to the transformative power of faith and technology combined. May his legacy inspire us to live out our values in the digital world, using our talents and skills to make a positive impact and spread the message of love and kindness.
