HE PAID THE PRICE: FROM CROSS TO GLORY
Fidelis ENWEMEKA
On Sunday, April 12, 2026, the St. Cecilia Choir of St. Peter’s Parish, Ota, Ogun State (Abeokuta Diocese), in partnership with the Catholic Youth Organization of Nigeria (CYON), hosted a remarkable Easter Cantata.
The event, themed “He Paid the Price: From Cross to Glory”, featured hymns and songs inspired by Scripture passages including Hebrews 4:16, John 15:13, 1 Corinthians 15:56–57, and Luke 1:46–47. Choir Mistress and CYON Parish President, Winifred Achiri, explained that the selections were carefully chosen to embody the spirit of Easter, particularly the resurrection of Christ.
In his opening remarks, Choir President Mr. Ayodele Emmanuel welcomed parishioners and guests—both Catholics and non-Catholics—assuring them of a Spirit-filled experience. The Parish Pastoral Council Chairman, Mr. Lawrence Huyingan, led the opening prayers, commending the choir’s dedication and urging them to continue serving God through music, which he described as an integral part of the liturgy.
The Choir’s Grand Patron, Dr. Vincent Eko, lauded their passion for excellence, praising their continual growth and the way their music enriches Eucharistic celebrations. Special recognition was given to Mr. Oyenekan Steven, Laity President of St. Peter’s Parish Ota and President of the Lagos Metropolitan Council of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, for his immense contributions to the choir. Chief (Mrs.) Tessy Nnaji was also acknowledged for her role in advancing the choir’s mission.
In his closing address, Parish Priest Very Rev. Fr. Clement Ajibola Ashade expressed heartfelt gratitude to all attendees, especially patrons and patronesses, and prayed for even greater participation in future cantatas.
