The Women Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (WOWICAN), Oyo State chapter, has inaugurated its newly elected executives in a solemn ceremony on Thursday 9th April 2026 at CAN Secretariat Ijokodo which was marked by prayer, worship, and spiritual exhortation.

The well-attended event featured a structured programme including praise and worship, opening prayers, Bible readings, formal induction of the executives, exhortation, goodwill messages, and thanksgiving.

A key highlight of the ceremony was the inauguration of the state executive members, among whom was Elder Mrs. Mercy Danladi JP as (Chairperson), Catechist Oluwayemisi Bernadina (Vice Chairperson), Evangelist Mrs. Yetunde Olayiwola (Secretary), Pastor Mrs. Babalola Folasade as (Assistant Secretary), Prophetess C.O.K Taiwo (Treasurer), Mrs. Funmilola Onibiyo (Director of Ecumenism), Amb. Mrs. Edith Isidahomen, (Director of Legal and State Affairs), Mrs. Elizabeth Oluwatoyin Amole (Director of Social and Women Affairs), Prophetess (Dr.) Adeola Oyegbami JP (Director of Education Women and Youth) and Ap. Mother Tabitha Akinyemi (Director of Planning Research and Strategy)

In his homily, Rev Osoaro charged the newly inaugurated leaders to embrace humility and remain steadfast in their service to God and humanity. Drawing from the biblical account of King Uzziah, he reminded the congregation that the king was “marvelously helped” by God but fell into pride, which ultimately led to his downfall.

“He forgot that somebody made him powerful; at a point, he could not recognize the One who made him what he was,” the preacher said.

The cleric warned that pride is a precursor to destruction, noting that many individuals display humility when seeking positions but abandon it once they attain authority.

He likened this tendency to the conduct of some political office holders who become inaccessible after elections.

“The true character of a man is not known until he has money or power,” he stated.

Rev. Osoaro further urged the executives to acknowledge God’s grace in their emergence, remain transparent in leadership, and uphold faithfulness and accountability.

He also encouraged openness to constructive criticism as a necessary virtue for effective leadership.

Cautioning against the abuse of office, he referenced King Uzziah’s transgression in assuming priestly duties, stressing that respect for divine order and boundaries is essential for lasting success.

Among the dignitaries and notable clergy present were Rev. Dr. Elisha O. Ogundiya, CAN OYO STATE CHAIRMAN; Rev. Fr. Francis Omolade, Oyo State CAN vice Chairman; Very Revd Samuel Temitope Owolabi, Secretary CAN Oyo state; and Rev. Fr. Stephen Balogun ONA - ARA CAN Chairman.

The ceremony concluded with prayers for the newly inaugurated executives, outgoing leaders, and the entire Oyo State CAN, followed by thanksgiving and a closing hymn.

The inauguration signals a renewed commitment by WOWICAN in Oyo State to promote God-centered leadership anchored on humility, service, and accountability.
