SightQuest Project Launched in Oyo State to Expand Access to Eye Care Services
The SightQuest Project has been officially launched in Oyo State, marking a major milestone in efforts to expand access to comprehensive eye care services and reduce preventable blindness.
The launch event, held at the Signature Tower Hotel in Ibadan, brought together government officials, development partners, healthcare professionals, and civil society stakeholders.
The project is being implemented by Eleta Eye Institute in collaboration with Al-Basar International Foundation, with support from CBM and other partners.
During the event, speakers highlighted the project’s objectives, scope, and expected impact, emphasizing its role in improving eye health outcomes across Oyo State and beyond. The programme also featured technical presentations on the CBM SightQuest Nigeria Programme and the integration of innovative solutions such as simulation-based cataract surgical training.
Goodwill messages from partner organizations reinforced the importance of multi-stakeholder collaboration in addressing avoidable blindness, while a keynote address provided strategic insights into strengthening eye health systems.
The Honourable Commissioner for Health officially launched the project, unveiling key materials and symbolically flagging off implementation through the presentation of equipment and information, education, and communication (IEC) materials.
The event also featured a cultural performance celebrating diversity and inclusion, followed by networking sessions to foster collaboration among stakeholders.
The SightQuest Project is expected to deliver significant benefits, including increased access to quality eye care services, strengthened health systems, and improved outcomes for underserved communities.
