IBCYON Leadership Formation 2026 Commences Physical Session

Rev Fr. Gabriel AZEEZ

The Ibadan Archdiocesan Catholic Youth Organization of Nigeria (IBCYON) successfully commenced the first physical session of its Leadership Formation 2026 programme on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, Mokola, Ibadan.

The programme, themed "Called to Serve," brought together young leaders from various parishes and deaneries across the Archdiocese for a day of learning, reflection, interaction, and leadership development.

The first session was facilitated by Mrs. Rita Oniseitan, who delivered a presentation on "Reality Check." She challenged participants to undertake an honest assessment of their personal lives, leadership attitudes, strengths, and weaknesses. Emphasizing self-awareness and accountability, she reminded participants that effective leadership begins with personal transformation. A major takeaway from the session was the understanding that leadership is not about status or position, but about service, humility, and impact.

The second presentation was delivered by Rev. Fr. Kingsley, SDB, on the topic "Group Dynamics and Parish Animation." He highlighted the importance of teamwork, collaboration, effective communication, and youth oneness in achieving organizational goals. Participants were also encouraged to improve meeting outcomes through proper planning and preparation while fostering active participation in parish life.

Addressing the participants, the Chaplain, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Eseola, reminded them that leadership in the Church is fundamentally a call to service. Drawing from the programme theme, "Called to Serve," he encouraged the young leaders to imitate Christ through humility, commitment, integrity, and responsible leadership.

The programme featured interactive discussions, questions and answers, and opportunities for participants to reflect on practical leadership challenges facing young people in the Church today.

A total of 122 participants, drawn from 29 parishes across seven deaneries attended the maiden physical session. The deaneries represented were Bodija (7 parishes), Oke-Offa (5), Oke-Ado (4), Oke-Padi (4), Oluyole (4), Mokola (3), and Ikire (2). In addition, 16 committee members, executives, animators, and facilitators were present, bringing the total attendance to 138.

Participants described the programme as insightful, practical, and transformative, particularly in its emphasis on servant leadership, self-evaluation, effective planning, and collaboration.

As the Leadership Formation 2026 programme continues, participants are expected to build on the lessons learned during this first session and further develop the skills, attitudes, and values required for effective leadership and service. The programme remains a testament to IBCYON's commitment to raising young leaders who are truly Called to Serve.
