CORPUS CHRISTI: BISHOP BADEJO DESCRIBES THE HOLY EUCHARIST AS GOD'S GREATEST GIFT OF LOVE

The Catholic faithful of St. Ferdinand Catholic Church, Ogbomoso, gathered in joyful celebration on Sunday for the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi), presided over by the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Oyo, Most Rev. Emmanuel Adetoyese Badejo.
Delivering the homily, Bishop Badejo reflected on the mystery and transformative power of the Holy Eucharist, describing it as God's greatest gift of love to humanity. He emphasized that the benefits of the Eucharist are evident in the lives of believers through its power to renew hearts and strengthen faith.
"Corpus Christi Day is the day to recognize God again. The Body and Blood of Christ is good for our soul," the Bishop said.
Addressing the mystery of the sacrament, he noted that human understanding cannot fully explain how bread and wine become the Body and Blood of Christ. He pointed to the Gospel of John, Chapter 6, where Jesus revealed Himself as the Bread of Life, assuring the faithful of His real presence in the Eucharist.
The Bishop stressed that the Eucharist is not merely a personal devotion but a call to unity, forgiveness, and service to others. He urged Christians to allow the sacrament to shape their relationships and inspire acts of charity and reconciliation.
Speaking on the significance of the feast, Bishop Badejo said that in a world troubled by violence, division, injustice, fear, and uncertainty, the Eucharist remains a source of hope, healing, and strength. He encouraged the faithful to become instruments of Christ's love by bringing peace where there is conflict, hope where there is despair, and light where there is darkness.
He also offered prayers for those facing insecurity, poverty, illness, displacement, and other forms of suffering, asking God to grant healing, comfort, freedom, and lasting peace to individuals, communities, and nations.
At the end of the Mass, the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Moses Alaba, expressed gratitude to Bishop Badejo for celebrating the solemnity with the parish community. He described the Bishop's presence as a source of great joy and encouragement to the faithful.
A notable highlight of the celebration was the Children's Thanksgiving, which coincided with the feast. The children expressed excitement and delight at having the Bishop celebrate with them, providing an opportunity to experience his fatherly care and pastoral closeness firsthand.
Responding to the warm reception from the clergy, children, and parishioners, Bishop Badejo thanked the congregation and encouraged them to remain steadfast in the Catholic faith while continuing to grow in peace, happiness, and Christian joy.
The celebration concluded with a Eucharistic procession and an atmosphere of thanksgiving, leaving parishioners spiritually renewed and strengthened in their faith.
