Episode 62 CORPORAL WORKS OF MERCY – PART II
- Sheltering the homeless
Donate time and/or money to organizations that build homes for those who need shelter. Many homeless shelters need blankets for their beds. If you can knit or sew, that would be an extra loving gift. There are many helpless children and families on the streets; we can help them. If God blesses you or your family with housing, you can help the needy with a reduction in rent.
- Visiting the sick
Individuals who are sick are often forgotten or avoided. In spite of their illness, they still have much to offer to those who take the time to visit and comfort them. Donate blood, spend time volunteering, visit with an elderly neighbour. Offer assistance to care-givers, the chronically sick and so on.
- Visiting the prisoner
People who are in prison are still human beings, made in the image and likeness of God. No matter what someone has done, they deserve the opportunity to hear the word of God. Volunteer to help out or donate to charities that give Christmas presents to children whose parents are in prison and even donate to inmates.
- Burying the dead
Through our prayers and actions during bereavement, we show our respect for life, which is a gift from God, and give comfort to those who mourn. Send a card to a bereaved person, visit the cemetery, help plan funerals, read through the sacred texts of Christian Funerals, and discover our hope in the resurrection.
- Giving alms to the poor
Donate money to organizations that have the ability to provide support and services to those in need. Do research and find organizations that put people in need first, rather than profit. Also give alms readily
